“…one of the symptoms of bad judgement
is believing you have good judgement.
When you’re too weak to lift something, you can tell,
but when you’re making a decision impetuously,
you’re all the more sure of it.”

– Paul Graham, http://paulgraham.com.

What a challenge it is to help someone understand that
“they don’t know what they don’t know.”  Arguing and
debating never work. Neither does the “que sera sera”
response, which eventually leads to an “I told you so”
   critique.

Next time, try this. Ask thought-provoking non-
leading questions.  In other words, don’t try to steer them
toward any particular conclusion.  Just get them thinking.
Then suggest that they pray about it and sleep on it before
   taking action.
